At Loyola we consider English to be the vital component of our school curriculum. Every boy is helped and encouraged to prove their full potential and to achieve the highest standard possible in writing, reading, speaking and listening. From Prep (Y3) onwards, pupils are taught in two smaller groups to allow them to develop at their appropriate pace.
We recognise the National Curriculum and we use national SATs for formal assessment at the end of Key Stage 2. From Reception to Figures (Y5), progress is tracked using National Foundation for Educational Research assessment in use of English, as well as devices such as standardised tests for spelling. The school achieves standards well above national levels. We prepare pupils for external examinations at 11+, focusing on skills required for their procedures, in addition to skills set out in the National Curriculum.
